Krisha's bedroom makeover

Paint job brings the team together. For seven-year-old Krisha from Auckland who is in remission from cancer, getting a bedroom pimped out in her favourite colours was a wish come true… and the Mico crew helped make that happen.

Aalia Bahadur, who recently took on the role of Data & Insights Manager for Mico, says not only was it great experience to help make this wish a reality, but the time spent working on it provided an opportunity for some great team bonding.

“We are from all different parts of Mico and had never met in person before – it was a great experience for us and we learnt a lot from each other. Not only did we get to feel good about painting and helping, but we were also able to connect with each other,” she says.

“We definitely learnt what our strengths are. I was the finer details person on the team. Sarah has a hidden talent for cleaning up paint splashes left on the carpet (by me) and we all brought our special talents to the project – it was a great experience.”

Aalia says painting Krisha’s room was not her first paint job. She comes from a creative family (her mum is a wildlife painter living on the outskirts of Kruger National Park) and growing up in the small town of Pilgrim’s Rest in South Africa she was given a lot of creative freedom to paint and decorate her bedroom as a teenager.

While she didn’t follow in her mum’s footsteps Aalia says there’s an art to making numbers and analytics interesting to people, “you need to tell the story and all that stuff needs to be interesting to look at … if you make it exciting it just brings it to life – you’re basically pimping up a presentation,” she says.

Great job on another wish granted!
