Kapita boy jumping for joy

After three flyaway trampolines from his very windy back yard, it’s not surprising twelve-year-old Kapiti Coast kid Terrence wished for a trampoline that will stay put! And what better accessories for the 14ft tramp than a basketball hoop and flagpole to fly the Tino Rangatiratanga flag from?

This “very proud Māori” is also extremely brave, living with Hepatoblastoma – a very rare form of cancer that starts in the liver. In the coming weeks the whole setup will be blessed by Ngāti Toa Iwi – and sandbags will help keep the tramp where it should be!

If anyone has assembled a trampoline before, you’ll know it’s not only a labour of love but an epic test of following instructions and teamwork. Luckily the boys from Region 3 – Sam Knight, Kerry McDonald and Matt Hassan were on the job to bring Terrence’s wish to reality.

Kerry says the experience was amazing – from organising the wish request right through to the end result. “It was a very humbling experience seeing the excitement on the child’s face and how much the family appreciated it. It was a privilege to be a part of this Make-A-Wish delivery and to see Terrance’s wish come true. I am certain this will bring him many future happy memories. This is certainly a cause I would love to get behind and look forward to the next wishes we fulfil,” he says.

“Terence is very happy boy... I really appreciated everything you guys have done. Especially putting a smile on my son’s face.” Tracy – Terrence’s mum.
